Bowling

Every year we have an employee bowling day. During the lunch hour, the Sandy city employees (who want to) head over to the bowling ally. It's always a good time. This year I'm thankful for bowling because I feel like it brought my new work team a little closer together. It was really fun to see them all let loose and have a good time. I'm thankful that the administration of our city lets us have this fun event every year.

Canceled meetings

I feel like my whole job is meetings. Meetings at the parks and rec office, meetings at city hall, meetings, meetings, meetings!! Today I only had one meeting and it was canceled!! I'm thankful that the cancelation gave me an opportunity to get caught up on a few things. I hope eventually there will be less meetings so I can feel like I have a presence in the rec center that I'm supposed to be running!

Sunglasses

It snowed on my way to work. I hate it when that happens! But later this afternoon, the sun came out. And when the sun comes out after it has snowed, it is sun-ny!! I'm thankful for my $4.00 sunglasses so I could see without squinting. And I'm thankful I needed those sunglasses! I love the sun!

Neosporin

I cut my had a few days ago on a can of beans. It was dumb. It bled quite a bit, but then it was fine. It's been getting better for a few days, but yesterday it looked infected. It was all red and swollen and it hurt!! I'm sure it was a really bad idea to put a cut hand in the snowmobiling gloves...who knows whose hands have been in there?! Last night and a few times today I coated the cut in neosporin and covered it with a bandaid. It's already looking so much better! I'm thankful that things like that are very easily accessible these days!!

My grandma

Our fun snowmobiling weekend ended today. Today we packed everything back into the car and headed home. When we got to Blackfoot, I made everyone stop so I could say hello to my grandma really fast. It was great to see her. I'm thankful I was able to stop. I'm thankful my friends were such good sports about it!

Snowmobiling

Today was a great day! I had so much fun. I'm thankful for the opportunity I had to enjoy the outdoors (I don't usually enjoy the outdoors when it's winter). I'm thankful for the friends I got to spend the day with. I'm thankful for our safety. I'm thankful for the gluten free food they had at the lodge we stopped at. I'm thankful for the pictures we took and all the fun we had.

Laughing friends

I'm always thankful for laughter, but today I'm especially thankful for the laughter of my friends. I'm lucky enough to be spending the weekend in Island Park/Yellowstone snowmobiling with some of my favorite people. We drove up today and literally laughed for almost five hours in the car. It was awesome. I'm thankful for this weekend to get away and laugh and recharge my batteries!!

Sore muscles

I'm super embarrassed just how little I had to do to make leg muscles sore!! But I'm so thankful to have that feeling in my life again. I can't wait to get back to the level activity that I was used to before surgery, and before my hip started hurting last May. I am so thankful for my body's ability to heal and get stronger, even if that means I have to be thankful for sore muscles for a while!

Personal computers

I am so thankful that I live in a day and age where I can have my own computer. I'm thankful that my computer allowed me to finish up a project that is due tomorrow at work. Without that ability, I would have had to drive all the way back to Sandy to work late tonight. I'm thankful I did not have to do that!!

RUNNING

It was only a mile and it was only half of my body weight. But I am SO thankful for that mile. It definitely put a smile on my face for most of the day! I'm so thankful my hip is healing and that I can now see progress towards where I want to be!

Consistency

I've been to all 3 hours of church every week this year, except for 1! It's probably pretty terrible that I am so excited about that record! But honestly, I hate 1:00 church and we have that time again this year, even though that's what we had last year. And I don't love Sunday school and Relief Society. It was getting really easy to just leave after Sacrament Meeting! But, with the new year I decided I needed an attitude adjustment. I decided I needed to stop leaving early. I decided to make the most Sunday school and Relief Society. And it's been great. I'm grateful that the consistency is making it easier! Most weeks I leave church uplifted and thankful that for all 3 hours!

A baptism

Krista's sister-in-law was baptized today. It was a great day! As we were driving up to Layton, I thought for a minute about what this baptism will mean for Brooke, for her husband and her kids, and for all of Krista's family. The thought just overwhelmed my heart with happiness. I cried. In the car. Before I even got to the baptism! I'm so proud of and happy for Brooke and Steve. I'm thankful I got be a part of an experience like that!

A girls night

I feel like the title "girls night" is lame for us single folks. Really, every night is a girls night...but whatever. Today I'm thankful that my friends decided NOT to go to our single's ward winter campout and decided to go to dinner, shopping, and a movie instead. It was really fun!

Valentines Day

It's really pretty fun to share your last name with a holiday. I have really loved wishing people a happy "Jetta valentine's day. I have also enjoyed handing out some little treats. It's been a great day!!

Hands

There are a few blogs I really love to read. One of those is that of an old friend from high school. We weren't really even close friends, but I knew her and respected her then and I've grown to love her blog now. She is a wife and mother of 2 adorable little girls, with a baby boy on the way. This little boy they are expecting is not the typical, healthy baby that everyone hopes for. In addition to a handful of potentially very scary conditions, he will be born without hands. I admire the strength and courage that my friend and her husband have going into this. They know it will be hard, but they also know that Heavenly Father is in charge and things will work out the way they are supposed to. Reading about their situation has helped realize just how thankful I am for my hands!!

Red hair

I dyed my hair tonight - for the first time ever. I've highlighted it a little bit a couple times, but this is the first time I've dyed it all. I've been wanting to go a more vibrant shade of red for a while now. Krista and Heather (our visiting teacher/friend/hair stylist extraordinaire) finally cornered me in to actually doing it. It's dark. Darker than I anticipated. But I heard it will fade quickly. I'm still a little nervous about, but I'm thankful for the change.

My moms voice

I talked my mom on the phone today. I actually talk to her a lot (I can't help it - I miss that lady)!! But today I talked to her and she had a voice. And we talked until we were done talking - we didn't have to end our conversation because she was coughing or her voice was totally gone. It was great! I'm thankful for our short chat, and for many other chats I'm sure we'll have soon!

A mission farewell

I don't even remember the last mission farewell I attended. I'm too old to have friends leaving on missions! But I have this employee...well, old employee. He used to work for me before I got a new job. He is a great employee. He is older than most who are leaving on missions these days. He's had a few struggles which have delayed this process a bit for him. But he made it. He has shown me a fabulous example of what it means to be diligent and faithful! He's going to be a great missionary and I am so proud of him. I'm thankful he invited me to his farewell and I'm thankful I was able to attend.

Nephews

Two of my nephews has birthdays this weekend - Chase turned 6 yesterday and Josh turned 15 today! I can't believe how old they're all getting. Josh was my very first nephew and I still remember him as a tiny baby! I'm thankful that I got to see Josh compete in a tumbling meet today, on his birthday. And Chase is my youngest nephew. I can't believe he's 6!! I'm thankful that I got to get loves from him and see his smile - it melts my heart every time! I'm thankful for those two boys and I hope they both had a great birthday!

File folders

One of the worst parts of starting a new job is organizing files. Which files do I really need? Which files should I throw away? What new folders do I need to make? I had no clue so I just didn't organize anything! My desk turned into a big collection of piles. I've been running all over the city attending way too many meetings so I really haven't had a chance to get organized. I am so thankful that I finally had time today to start organizing. I'm thankful for fresh file folders that allowed me to get everything off the top of my desk and into my drawers. Maybe now I will be able to function a little better.

Sweat

I'm finally getting to the point where I can actually work out. I have missed it terribly! Tonight after work I spent some quality time riding my spin bike and doing my physical therapy stretches/exercises. I felt so accomplished knowing I did enough to work up a sweat.

Progress

I'm working on a big project at work. This project might be the death of me! Every time I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere, headed in the right direction, someone comes along and sends me right back to where I started! It's beyond frustrating! I'm thankful that today, after being forced to take a few steps backward, I feel like we made some good progress! I really, really hope we can continue that forward movement.

Safety

My sister was in a terrible car accident today. She hit from behind by a truck going 75mph. They had to use the jaws of life to get her out of the car. But, she's okay! I'm so thankful for the emergency crews that got her out of the car, transported to the hospital, and provided care at the hospital. She's sore. Really sore. And I'm sure it's only going to get worse for the next few days. But I'm thankful that she is safe and resting at home.

A countdown

I love to run. When I'm actually running, it's not super fun. But I love the way it makes me feel more than almost anything else! I haven't been in a running routine since last May! I'm about to lose my mind! You would think after having surgery on one knee and then having surgery on the opposite hip, I would learn my lesson and find a new hobby. But I can't. I just need to run! Today I'm thankful that my physical therapist finally gave me a date when she will let me start "running." "Running" is in quotes, because its not actually really running. I'll be "running" in an alter-G treadmill, or, as I like to call it - the anti-gravity treadmill. You literally get zipped in and then then the treadmill lifts you up so you're not running on your full body weight. The therapist said I'll probably only start with 50% of my body weight...but that's okay. I'll take it! 14 days from now I will start the long process to get back to running. And I'm thrilled!

The Super Bowl

I'm not a football fan by any stretch of the imagination. I would probably never watch a game on my own. But I did watch the big game tonight. It was actually pretty exciting. I'm thankful that I understand enough of the game to know what's going on. I'm thankful for good company and good food.

A cleaning rampage

I've been planning to clean my house the past several weekends. I would plan all week to spend some of the coming Saturday cleaning...but it never worked out. I am really good at finding things I would rather do instead of cleaning. I didn't even plan to clean this weekend, but I definitely cleaned! I got my laundry done, folded, AND put away. I cleaned my bedroom and my bathroom. I cleaned the laundry room, vacuumed the loft, the entry, the stairs, and the living room. I even mopped the kitchen floor. I very rarely clean like that! I'm thankful for that cleaning mood that helped me get my house looking ship shape!

Biaggis

Who isn't thankful for gluten free Italian food? I'm also thankful for the fun times I had there tonight. I'm thankful for the laughs, the conversation, the missionary moments, the flicked water/Mt. Dew, and drawing all over the paper on the table.
